About the event
India's cultural tapestry is mesmerizing: from the deep indigo of butterfly pea flower to the vibrance of hibiscus and marigolds, to the earthy tones of sumac leaves.
For centuries, natural dye has been practiced across India and has had wide spread influence on global craft and fashion. We will learn and apply बांधणी (bandhani) techniques to create naturally dyed bandanas and reuseable bags! You’ll leave the workshop having learned about a new culture, acquired sustainable tie-dye techniques, and a vibrant garment you can take home.
Through South Asian dye practices and prompts for creative self-expression, you will leave with:
- A grasp of the foundational principles of natural dye and how they can replicate this at home 🌼
- Appreciation of regional South Asian textile traditions and techniques 🇮🇳
- Naturally dyed, South Asian-inspired bandanas and re-useable Baggu-style bag to take home 🛍
