About the event
Embroidering photographs of loved ones is a cherished tradition to create art and decorate family altars in Central American cultures.
Sari will introduce us to artistic embroidery techniques used in Mexico and Guatemala to decorate photographs. This art provides an opportunity for connection between the artist and the people and places in the photograph, providing a space for connecting and storytelling.
Through meditation and embroidery practice, you will leave with:
- A deeper understanding of embroidered photography as a meditative art form that connects individuals to family, friends, and ancestors 💞
- Developed skills in artistic, technical, and storytelling elements present in embroidered photo art 🧵
- Your own embroidered photo ready to put in a frame or altar 🕯
Sari will guide us into this meditative art and help us learn basic embroidery (no prior skill needed) to embellish a photograph(s) of your choice. Please bring a couple of family photos, these can be of loved ones living or that have passed on. (Please leave original photos at home.)
